Breloom (Japaneseキノガッサ Kinogassa) is a dual-type Grass/Fighting Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Shroomish starting at level 23.

Biology

Breloom is a bipedal, mushroom-like Pokémon with some kangaroo-like qualities. Most of its body is green, but its head to its neck and its tail are beige. On top of its head is a green, mushroom-like cap with beige gills underneath and a round, red berry-like growth with a hole in the middle on either side. It has oval, black eyes, a beak-like mouth, and frilled segments around the base of its neck. There are two red claws on each of its hands and feet. At the end of its tail, there are seed clusters made of hardened toxic spores that are horrible to eat.

Breloom can stretch its short arms to deliver fast punches. Additionally, it has light, springy footwork that allows it to get close to opponents. Another way it closes in on opponents is by incapacitating them with spores released from the holes in its cap. Its technique is equal to that of professional boxers. It prefers to live in tropical forests, where it feeds on decomposing trees and plants.

Trivia

  • Breloom and its pre-evolved form their category with ParasParasectFoongus, and Amoonguss. They are all known as the Mushroom Pokémon.
    • All six Pokémon also share a common moveSpore, and AbilityEffect Spore.

Origin

Breloom seems to be based on a mushroom, specificially agaric types. The red nodules on its head resemble the berry-like arils on a yew tree. The shape of its head is reminiscent of a kasa, traditional Japanese hats with wide brims. Some of these hats were worn by monks, samurais, and soldiers, which may explain Breloom's Fighting type. Its body structure resembles a kangaroo, so its Fighting type could also be inspired by the boxing kangaroo. It may also be based on a dinosaur due to its claws, its dome-shape head resembling that of a pachycephalosaurus, its club-shaped tail resembling that of an ankylosaurus, and its pre-evolution Shroomish resembling a dinosaur egg.

Name origin

Breloom may be a combination of umbrella (referring to its head shape) and mushroom.

Kinogassa may be a combination of 茸 kinoko (mushroom) and 笠 kasa (a type of hat) or 傘 kasa (umbrella). It also sounds like 衣笠茸 kinugasatake (a species of mushroom).

Delphox (Japaneseマフォクシー Mahoxy) is a dual-type Fire/Psychic Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It evolves from Braixen starting at level 36. It is the final form of Fennekin.

Biology

Delphox is a bipedal, fox-like Pokémon. It is covered in a coat of long fur that resembles a robe. This "robe" is primarily dark red with red-orange, flame-like markings near its knees. There is also a thin tuft of white fur on its torso, which is flanked by yellow fur draping down from its shoulders. Its forearms feature long red fur resembling sleeves, and its hands and feet are dark gray with three clawed fingers and toes, respectively. A tail covered in yellow fur protrudes from its "robe". Its head is yellow with longer white fur on its cheeks. It has red eyes and a slender snout with a pinkish nose. Three tufts of red-orange fur protrude out of each ear. When its mouth is open, two pointed teeth can be seen on its upper jaw.

Delphox carries a stick that it uses like a magic wand. When in use, the tip is set alight, and when not in use, the stick is hidden away in its sleeve-like fur. Delphox gazes into the flame at the tip of its wand to achieve a focused state of mind that allows it to see into the far away. It can use its psychic power to ensnare its enemies in a fiery vortex capable of reaching 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit (3,000 degrees Celsius). In the past, Mystical Fire was its signature move.

Trivia

  • Delphox has the lowest base Attack stat of all fully evolved starter Pokémon.
  • Delphox is the only starter Pokémon to have the Psychic type.
  • Delphox and its pre-evolved forms share their category with VulpixNinetalesNickit, and Thievul. They are all known as the Fox Pokémon.

Origin

Delphox's evolutionary family is based on a fox,[1] specifically resembling the fennec fox. Delphox and its pre-evolutions may also draw inspiration from the mage class (mages are human made up stuff) as most mages use various elemental spells, including fire, to attack their opponents, sacrificing brute physical strength for magical prowess.

Name origin

Delphox may be a combination of Delphic oracle (fake character) and fox.

Mahoxy is a combination of 魔導師 madōshi (mage), 魔法 mahō (magic), and foxy.
