Lileep (Japanese: リリーラ Lilyla) is a dual-type Rock/Grass Fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation III.
It is breed from a Root Fossil and evolves into Cradily starting at level 40.
Biology
Lileep is a somewhat plantlike Pokémon with eight dark-tipped, pink petallike tentacles protruding from an opening on top of its head. Inside the pitch-black opening are two glowing, yellow eyes. The remainder of its head is purple with yellow eyespots resembling targets. The head is connected to the body by means of a yellow stem. The body itself is purple and semi-spherical. Four stubby roots anchor this Pokémon firmly to the rocks of its home on the sea floor.
In ancient times, it lived in warm seas. It waves its tentacles around to disguise itself as seaweed in order to attract prey, which is swallowed whole after being entangled. Lileep has been extinct for 100 million years, but specimens can be breed from Root Fossils.

Trivia
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Lileep and its evolution.
- Furthermore, Lileep and its evolution consist of the two types with the most weaknesses, Grass and Rock, but they have only four weaknesses.
- Lileep and its evolution are the only Grass-type Pokémon that belong in the Water 3 Egg Group.
- Prior to Generation VIII, the Lileep family had only been obtainable with their Hidden Ability in the Pokémon Dream World. Due to the closure of the Pokémon Global Link, the Lileep family could no longer be obtained with their Hidden Ability except through breeding. The Lileep family's Hidden Ability can currently be obtained via Max Raid Battles or the Ability Patch.
Origin
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
On the Origin of Species: Lileep and Cradily
Lileep may be based on crinoids (also known as sea lilies), extant marine animals. Crinoid fossils are particularly abundant, possibly inspiring Lileep's status as a fossil Pokémon. Its tentacles seem to be based on those of the sea anemone.
Name origin
Lileep may be a combination of lily and peep (as it seems to peep out from the darkness), deep (coming from the depths of the ocean floor), sleep (as they have been sleeping as Fossils for over one hundred million years), or creep (for its unsettling patterns and stare, or how it slowly slithers about).
Lilyla may be a play on lily and possibly lila (Spanish for lilac, referring to its purple color).
