Glaceon (Japaneseグレイシア Glacia) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from Eevee when it is leveled up near an Ice Rock (from Generations IV to VII) or exposed to an Ice Stone (in Generation VIII). It is one of Eevee's final forms, the others being VaporeonJolteonFlareonEspeonUmbreonLeafeon, and Sylveon.

Biology

Glaceon is a quadrupedal, mammalian Pokémon covered in light-blue fur that can be frozen into sharp quills. It has long, pointed ears, dark eyes, and a small nose. A teal crest with two dangling flaps adorns its head, resembling hair or headgear. Glaceon has two dark blue, rhombus-shaped markings on its back; the tip of its tail, feet, and flaps are the same shade of blue.

By controlling its body temperature, the moisture in the air freezes, producing ice crystals surrounding it. It is capable of freezing its fur into sharp needle-like icicles, used to tackle its prey. It can drop its body temperature below -75 degrees Fahrenheit. Those captivated by Glaceon's beautiful snowfall will be instantly frozen without realizing it. Glaceon is rather popular in ski resorts due to its ability to compose powdery snow. Glaceon is usually found in urban areas under the care of humans. It is rarely found in the wild.

Trivia

  • Glaceon's Japanese name is the same as the English name of Glacia, a member of the Hoenn Elite Four.
  • According to the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex, Glaceon, Leafeon, and Umbreon have identical footprints.
  • As there is no Ice Rock in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is impossible to evolve Eevee into a Glaceon in these games. The same applies for MagnezoneProbopass, and Leafeon. All have to be traded from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum to be obtained.
  • Despite Eevee being obtainable before the Pokémon League in Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, it cannot evolve into Glaceon or Leafeon until after the Elite Four is defeated. This is because the Twist Mountain, where the Ice Rock is located, cannot be reached until that point in the game, as the entrances to it and the Tubeline Bridge are blocked.
  • Glaceon shares its category with Vanillite. They are both known as the Fresh Snow Pokémon.
  • Glaceon was designed by Atsuko Nishida.[1]
  • Glaceon is tied with Espeon for the highest base Special Attack stat of all Eeveelutions.
  • Glaceon has the lowest base Attack stat of all Eeveelutions.

Origin

Like many of the Eeveelutions, Glaceon shares characteristics with foxes, dogs, and cats. It may be more closely based on an arctic fox, due to their habitat. Assuming Leafeon draws inspiration from Siamese or other colorpoint cats, Glaceon may also draw some inspiration from them (especially blue points). Its "hair" resembles an ushanka or a scarf hat.

Name origin

Glaceon is a combination of glace (French for ice) or glacier (a large, slow-moving mass of ice on land) and eon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally). Eon is a suffix all Eevee evolutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name. Its name may also be an anagram of the English word congeal (meaning to freeze)

Glacia may derive from glace (French for ice), glacier (a large, slow moving mass of ice on land), or grace (as in graceful).
