Blaziken (Japaneseバシャーモ Bursyamo) is a dual-type Fire/Fighting Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Combusken starting at level 36. It is the final form of Torchic.

Blaziken can Mega Evolve into Mega Blaziken using the Blazikenite.

Biology

Blaziken is a bipedal, chicken-like Pokémon. The majority of Blaziken's body is red with accents of beige, yellow, and gray. Behind its head, there are beige, hair-like feathers that continue downward and surround its chest and abdomen. It has a small red face with a V-shaped crest on its head. Blaziken's blue eyes are semicircular with yellow sclerae, and its mouth is similar to a hooked beak. It has featherless, gray hands with three fingers each, and three clawed toes that are not normally visible due to the shaggy, yellow feathers on the bottom of its legs. A female has a shorter mask and hair than a male.

Blaziken has strong, muscular legs that give it great lower body strength. This lower body strength helps its kicking and jumping abilities. Blaziken's wrists have gray wristband-like markings capable of producing a tuft of fire above them. Blaziken can also make flames spout from its ankles. This allows it to cloak its feet or fists, and it uses these abilities while practicing a form of martial art. These combined abilities allow it to use its former signature moveBlaze Kick. Its flames burn more intensely when it faces stronger opponents. Every several years, its old feathers burn off, and new, supple feathers grow back in their place. While Blaziken is rarely found in the wild, it is known to inhabit grasslands.

As Mega Blaziken, it loses its yellow markings and gains black markings on its upper legs and chest. Its hair-like feathers take on a wing-like shape and point upward, and the portion around its chest is rough around its shoulders. The crest on its head changes into a flat horn that curves backward. The fire it composes on its wrists is now longer. When Blaziken Mega Evolves into Mega Blaziken, it further hones the power of its kicks, always a source of pride to it. As it unleashes a flurry of savage kicks, its legs can begin to burn from the friction of the surrounding atmosphere. As Mega Blaziken's body temperature increases, its power and speed continue to ramp up. [1]

Blaziken

NABlaziken would be the perfect star for an intense, action-packed movie. Its fiery fists pack a serious punch, and it has no problem leaping over 30-story buildings. We'd save so much on the special effects! All we need is a good name... How about Fired Up! Better yet, Fired Up 3! That way it sounds like it's already a popular series!

PALWe should make an action film starring Blaziken. With its fiery fists and ability to spring over 30-storey buildings effortlessly, we'd save a ton of money on CGI! Let's call it... Red Renegade! Or, better yet, Red Renegade 3 - then people will think it's part of a popular series!

Mega Blaziken

This Mega Evolution has polished its attacks and is awaiting a worthy opponent. The Blaze Kick it can unleash will leave its foes charred. Mega Blaziken has what it takes to become a fighting champ!

Trivia

Pre-alpha sketch of the unused Pokémon

Pre-alpha sketch of Torchic
  • Blaziken is the only fully-evolved starter Pokémon in the core series to appear in the anime before its debut generation.
  • A pre-alpha sketch depicts an unused Pokémon with the traits of both Blaziken and Latias. Likewise, Mega Blaziken's ears appear similar to those in a pre-alpha sketch of Torchic.
  • Mega Blaziken is the only Mega Evolution officially introduced in Pokémon X and Y that is not native to Kalos.

Origin

Blaziken is probably based on a cockfighting chicken, specifically the Japanese Shamo chicken breed known for its mane and upright posture. The feathery legs resemble those of a Cochin chicken. It bears resemblance to Horus and Ra, two anthropomorphic ancient Egyptian fake characters with falcon heads. Blaziken may also be based on the Basan, a legendary fire-breathing chicken, or possibly the karura. It is somewhat based on the mythical phoenix, as its feathers burn off every few years. It may also draw inspiration from the taimatsu-maru, creatures that resembled raptors or tengu and trailed flames.

Its Fighting type may also draw inspiration from Muay Thai fighters, since Blaziken's official artwork depicts a typical flying knee and Mega Blaziken's stance portrays a check.

Name origin

Blaziken is a combination of blaze and chicken.

Bursyamo may be a combination of burst or burn and 軍鶏 shamo, a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting.

Garchomp (Japanese: ガブリアス Gaburias) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground pseudo-legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from Gabite starting at level 48. It is the final form of Gible.

Garchomp can Mega Evolve into Mega Garchomp using the Garchompite.

Biology

Garchomp flying

Garchomp is a bipedal, draconian Pokémon that is primarily dark blue in color. It has red on its underbelly from the lower jaw to the middle of the abdomen, including the undersides of its arms. A patch of gold comes to a point below the red on its belly, and a golden star shape adorns the tip of its snout. Garchomp has horn-like appendages that resemble a jet or plane's engines, giving it an appearance similar to a hammerhead shark. These allow it to sense its prey from a long distance. Its large mouth features razor-sharp teeth. The feet have three white talons, and each arm has a single large, white claw for a hand. Curved fins sprout from the arms, spawning wings that allow Garchomp to fly. Garchomp also has a large dorsal fin and another on its tail that resembles a shark tailfin. The male's dorsal fin has a notch on it. Pairs of small, white spikes protrude from its upper arms and legs, and there are gill-like slits on the sides of the neck. The eyes are intense, with black sclerae and gold-colored irises.

When Garchomp Mega Evolves, several of its features become more angular, including its head and shoulders. A row of five tooth-like spikes sprouts from each side of its abdomen and red spikes grow from its knees. The claws and fins on its arms melt from the excessive Mega Evolution energy and morph together to form sharp, red blades. Because Garchomp takes great pride in its winglike fins, the sight of them melting into scythes sends it mad with rage. Its scythes can slice the ground to pieces, and Mega Garchomp viciously tears up its opponents with them.

Garchomp can fly at an incredible speed to catch its prey, being capable of flying as fast as a jet airplane. It is able to move on both the air and underground. It preys on bird Pokémon and is known to eat entire flocks of them whole. It sometimes battles Salamence in the air as they compete for food. After catching the prey, it returns back to den before its body can cool down. The fine scales on its body reduce drag for easier flight, and their sharp edges also serve to injure opponents who attack it directly. It can use its protuberances as sensors for finding distinct prey. Garchomp is a cave-dweller and is seldom seen in the wild. It also lives in volcanic mountains.

Trophy information

NA: Garchomp looks like a plane's engines mixed with a hammerhead shark. There's something about it that we just find so appealing - we have to get one! Garchomp is capable of folding up its body and spreading its wings, letting it move at Mach speed! Garchompite will Mega Evolve Garchomp into Mega Garchomp, increasing its power even more!

PAL: There's something about Garchomp that appeals to the kid in all of us. It's basically a mach-speed flying dinosaur with spikes. What's not to love? When it folds up its body and extends its wings for flight, you might mistake it for a jet plane. And with a little Garchompite, it can Mega Evolve for extra firepower!

Trivia

Garchomp's prototype sprite from Platinum
  • Although the Garchomp in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure and its sequel has no notch on his fin, he is referred to as male.
  • In an early Japanese trailer for Pokémon Platinum, a prototype front sprite is seen that is different from the final sprite.
  • Garchomp has the highest base HP stat of all pseudo-legendary Pokémon.
  • Garchomp is the only pseudo-legendary Pokémon to have gender differences.
  • Garchomp has the lowest base Special Attack stat of all pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

Origin

Appearance-wise, Garchomp seems like a cross between a wyvern, various species of sharks (including the hammerhead), and possibly a dromaeosaurid or other theropod dinosaur. In particular, considering Garchomp's saurian build with shark-like features, it may be a visual play on the Carcharodontosaurus, a theropod dinosaur whose name means "shark-toothed lizard". Its design also strongly resembles a jet aircraft. Mega Garchomp's skull-like head and scythe arms are a stereotypical image of the Grim Reaper.

Name origin

Garchomp may be a combination and corruption of gore (a projecting point), guard or Carcharodon (the scientific name for sharks) and chompGar may also derive from garpike (a species of fish somewhat similar in appearance), gargantuan (relating to its size) or gargoyle which occasionally bears a likeness to European dragons.

Gaburias may be a combination of がぶがぶ gabugabu (onomatopoeia for gulping) or がぶりと gaburito (bite or chew) and アース āsu (earth) or Carcharias.
