Gallade (Japaneseエルレイド Erureido) is a dual-type Psychic/Fighting Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from a male Kirlia when exposed to a Dawn Stone. It is one of Ralts's final forms, the other being Gardevoir.

Gallade can Mega Evolve into Mega Gallade using the Galladite.

Biology

Gallade is a white, bipedal Pokémon. Its lower body consists of rounded hips with strong legs. It has a thin green torso with sharp, red horns sticking out of its chest and back. Its arms are shaped like tonfas with extendable blades in its elbows. Its head resembles a gladiator's helmet with a white face, red eyes, and a teal head crest. It has spikes on the sides of its face.

It is a master of courtesy and swordsmanship that is capable of predicting its foe's moves. True to Gallade's honorable warrior image, it is just as protective of their Trainer as its counterpart Gardevoir, using the blades on its elbows to defend. Gallade is known to be sharply aware of a person's wish for help and seeks out those who need its assistance in battle.

As Mega Gallade, its entire body becomes white. Red plates emerge on its arms, the blue head crest is slightly longer, and the spikes on its head are elongated and gain two cape-like protrusions on the back, this giving it a knightly appearance. When the situation demands it, Mega Gallade can use its psychic power to reshape both arms into blades simultaneously and fight using a dual-wielding style.

Trivia

  • Gallade's Attack and Special Attack stats are the reverse of Gardevoir's.
  • Gallade's number in the Sinnoh Pokédex (Platinum only) and the Almia Browser are the same: 160.
  • Gallade and Gardevoir are the only Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution that are in the same evolutionary family.
  • Mega Gallade has the highest Attack stat of all non-Legendary Psychic-type Pokémon.
  • As of Generation VIII, Gallade and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon that are in the Amorphous and Human-Like Egg Groups.

Origin

The single fin on Gallade's head resembles the helmet worn by murmillo-class Roman gladiators, or the Corinthian helmet with a horsehair crest worn by Greek hoplites, but it may also be based on medieval knights. Additionally, its battle stances in various media resemble the en garde position and parries of modern fencing, while the elbow swords themselves have a close resemblance to tonfas, wooden bars held against the arm to act as batons and arm guards. Mega Gallade's cape is similar to a matador or bullfighter's fabric.

Name origin

Gallade may be a combination of gallant and blade or ballad.

Erureido may be a combination of elbow or earl (in antiquity, a chieftain or military leader; in present day, a rank in the British nobility), blade, referring to the sword-like appendages on its arms, and iaido, a Japanese martial art of responding to attacks with swift swordplay.

Escavalier (Japaneseシュバルゴ Chevargo) is a dual-type Bug/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Karrablast when traded for a Shelmet, which evolves into Accelgor simultaneously. Neither evolves if at least one holds an Everstone during the trade.

Biology

Escavalier is an insectoid Pokémon with a head sporting the red horsehair crest of a knight's helmet, with a visor underneath it. Its shoulders have large, round metal ridges, from which its thin black arms extend. The arms are tipped with red-striped protrusions resembling jousting lances. Its face and torso are bare of armor, but its lower body is concealed within a swirled gray shell with a red spike on the underside, which was presumably the shell of a Shelmet.

Its tough armor protects its entire body. It flies around at high speed, jabbing foes with its lances. It is brave and will face any challenge even if in trouble. Escavalier is a popular Pokémon in the Galar region, with a famous painting showing it dueling Sirfetch'd.

Major appearances

In Evolution Exchange Excitement!Bianca owns an Escavalier, having traded her Shelmet for Professor Juniper's Karrablast. After the evolution, Escavalier refused to obey Bianca, so they, along with Professor Juniper and her Accelgor, had a Tag Battle against Ash and his Boldore, and Cilan and his Crustle, so Escavalier would gain Bianca's trust. In Mission: Defeat Your Rival!, Bianca used Escavalier in a battle against Cameron, but it was defeated by Samurott.

In Mewtwo — Prologue to AwakeningDirk used two Escavalier while attempting to capture Mewtwo. They eventually escaped when Mewtwo crushed their Poké Balls.

An Escavalier appeared in Searching for Chivalry!, under the ownership of Wikstrom.

Minor appearances

Escavalier debuted in Movie Time! Zorua in "The Legend of the Pokémon Knight"!. It starred in Wonder Fighters, a movie based on the Wonder Launcher, where it battled a Golurk.

An Escavalier appeared in a fantasy in Crisis at Chargestone Cave!.

In Master Class Choices!Shulin used an Escavalier in the Fleurrh City Showcase along with an Accelgor. It rounded up a group of Rhyhorn and made it to the Freestyle Performance.

Trivia

Origin

Escavalier may draw inspiration from both the Scaphinotus and Drilus genera of snail-preying beetles, the latter of which pupate inside the stolen shells. Its design also seems to be based on a jousting knight. Additionally, it might be slightly based on a cuirass.

Name origin

Escavalier may be a combination of escargot (French for snail) and cavalier (French for mounted soldier) or chevalier (French for knight) . It may also refer to Excalibur.

Chevargo is a combination of chevalier and escargot.

Aegislash (Japaneseギルガルド Gillgard) is a dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It evolves from Doublade when exposed to a Dusk Stone. It is the final form of Honedge.

Aegislash has the ability to change forms during battle, depending on the moves it is using.

Biology

Aegislash is a Pokémon whose body resembles a golden sword. The edge of the steel blade is white and somewhat serrated near the tip. Where the blade meets the hilt is a single, purple eye with a white slit pupil surrounded by black space. The handle forms a thick, striated spike. Two cloth-like arms emerge from the sides of the hilt. Each arm is primarily black and transitions to a pale purple with a slight swirl pattern at the tip. The sash-like arms split into four tassels at the tips. It always carries an ornate shield in at least one of its arms. The shield is gold and has three brown rings surrounded by black in the middle. It also has a brown rim with three lines radiating toward the center.

Aegislash is capable of changing its stance in the middle of battle using its Ability Stance Change, depending on what moves are used. It carries out offensive moves in its Blade Forme. In this form, it carries its shield in its left arm and exposes its blade, which it uses to slash its opponents. Defensive moves are performed in its Shield Forme. In this form, it holds its shield up in front of its blade with both of its arms crossed behind the shield. In this form, the centers of the rings on its shield are white. Its Shield Forme can block and decrease any attack. It accomplishes this through a combination of its steel body and a force field made from its spectral power. The Blade Forms can use the strength and weight of its blade to cut through any opponents.

Aegislash possess incredible spectral powers, enabling it to manipulate people and Pokémon alike. It is also able to detect the innate qualities of leadership; legend has it that whoever it recognizes as a worthy leader is destined to become king. In fact, this Pokémon has attended and served generations of kings. However, an Aegislash was rumored to have drained the life of one king, causing his kingdom to fall alongside him.

Aegislash is the only known Pokémon that can learn King's Shield.

Trivia

  • No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms.
    • Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms are also the only Steel-type Pokémon unaffected by Magnet Pull due to this unique typing.
  • Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms were designed by Hitoshi Ariga.[1]
  • Aegislash is the only Pokkén fighter without any moves exclusive to the duel phase.
  • Aegislash is the first Pokémon to have its base stats lowered in a generation after its introduction and the only Pokémon whose base stats changed in Generation VIII.
  • Shield Forme Aegislash has the highest base Special Defense stat of all Ghost-type Pokémon.

Origin

Aegislash appears to be based on a forged sword and shield. Its disposition to sense an owner's potential as leaders and kings seem to draw inspiration from the ideas of fake swords of European fake stories, such as Durendal and Excalibur.

Name origin

Aegislash may be a combination of Aegis (fake character zeus's shield in greek fake stories) and slash.

Gillgard may be a combination of Gilgamesh or gild (to cover with a layer of gold), 斬る kiru (to slay with a blade) or kill, and guard.
